Summary: Christ Lutheran Church meets in Pacific Beach. The service liturgy is similiar to a Catholic Mass. There are things this church does well. They had tables soliciting volunteers for their local involvement with an Interfaith Shelter, seem to have a heart for missions and have a strong desire to bring a message of God’s grace to people. Also, much thanks should be paid to Luther who began the reformission tradition. As to their beliefs, Lutherans hold to a differing view of baptism. The main difference of which I am aware between Lutheran and protestant baptism is that most protestant churches teach that Baptism is the sign and seal of the promise of God given through the Holy Spirit, whereas for Lutherans Baptism is the gift of Holy Spirit, himself, is received at God’s command and promise through the water and the Word of the Sacrament. The Lutheran view of baptism is summarized in a listing of its benefits in Luther’s Small Catechism: “In Baptism God forgives sin, delivers from death and the devil, and gives everlasting salvation to all who believe what he has promised.” Also, as for this particular church, they do not believe that Christ is the only way thus negating the view that the Bible is God’s authority and inspired Word. For this and other un-orthodox beliefs we cannot recommend this church.

Baptism required for salvation. Also, based on their interpretations they do not hold the Bible as God’s innerrant word to His people. We cannot recommend this church.

Summary: Eighth Church of Christ Scientist is a cult started in the 1800’s by Mary Baker Eddy. They use the words ‘christian’ and ’scientist’. They are neither Christian nor scientists. I recommend you visit the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry (CARM) to study this cult.

Not only does it deny the essential doctrines of Christianity, but it has completely reinterpreted the Bible. It drastically redefines the Bible’s culture and terminology and rips thousands of scriptures out of their historical and biblical contexts. The result is a non-Christian mixture of metaphysical and philosophical thoughts. Christian Science is so foreign to the Bible that, if it didn’t use words like Jesus, Trinity, Love, Grace, Sin, etc., you’d never suspect it had anything to do with the Bible at all. Additionally, the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which is the Christian Scientist’s mainstay of spiritual knowledge, reads with a rhythm of pseudo logical statements that has the tendency to dull the senses when read long enough. Is Christian Science Christian? Definitely not.

Above quote from CARM.

A cult.

Summary: The Way Christian Church is pastored by Art Murillo. The Way is a Bible believing and preaching church in Chula Vista. Pastor Murillo came from Mission Valley Chrisitan Fellowship a Calvary church. While The Way is non-denominational, in many ways it is similiar to the Calvary-style churches throughout Southern California. There are many things to like about The Way. They have a high view of scripture, they worship God, (Art is a professional worship leader), they have an active community seeking to love the lost, they have a great children’s ministry and they love Jesus Christ. Our main disagreement with The Way would be in how they interpret the Bible.

The Way Christian Church is a Bible-based church cut from the Calvary mold.
